White Christmas is a 1954 American musical romantic comedy film directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. It features the songs of Irving Berlin, including a new version of the title song, “White Christmas”, introduced by Crosby in the film Holiday Inn.
Produced and distributed by Paramount Pictures, the film is notable for being the first to be released in VistaVision, a widescreen process developed by Paramount that entailed using twice the surface area of standard 35mm film.
The movie tells the story of a successful song-and-dance team that becomes romantically involved with a sister act, and who teams to save the failing Vermont in of their former World War II commanding general.
You have two chances to see “White Christmas” at The Varsity! Screenings are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18.
Tickets are $8 or $4 for students. They are available in advance at Eventbrite (see link). Advance tickets are not available at the venue but will be available when doors open 30 minutes before showtimes.
The movies will be screened in the Balcony. Those who are unable to reach the Balcony will be admitted free and invited to watch the movie on a 60-inch HDTV in the Varsity Bar.
