This 1946 American Christmas fantasy comedy-drama film was produced and directed by Frank Capra. It stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man who has given up his dreams in order to help others, and whose imminent suicide on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers). Clarence shows George all the lives he has touched, and how different life in his community of Bedford Falls would be if he had never been born.
“It’s a Wonderful Life” is considered one of the greatest films ever made. It was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and has been recognized by the American Film Institute as one of the 100 best American films ever made. Capra revealed that this was his personal favorite among the films he directed, and that he screened it for his family every Christmas season.
There will be two showings of the film: 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec 17 and 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18.
Tickets are $8 or $4 for students. They are available in advance at Eventbrite (see link). They are not available in advance at the venue until doors open 30 minutes before showtimes.
The movies will be screened in the Balcony. Those who are unable to reach the Balcony, will be admitted free and invited to watch the movie on a 60-inch HDTV in the Varsity Bar.
