CARBONDALE, IL – The Carbondale Public Library and the Little Resource Center Carbondale (TLRC) are partnering to bring health and social services to the community.
Beginning in February, Community Health Worker Calvin Mennyweathers will be available at the Carbondale Public Library every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Mennyweathers, an employee of the Little Resource Center Carbondale, will work on-site at the library to provide information, referrals, and support to help community members connect with vital resources and services.
The Little Resource Center Carbondale provides free health, safety, and well-being services to strengthen and empower families, parents, and caregivers. TLRC offers short-term diaper and formula assistance, classes, and support groups for families and expectant parents; referrals to healthcare providers and social service agencies; and bilingual programming by appointment.
“The library has provided social services since 2015, and this partnership represents exactly what community collaboration should look like,” said Jennifer Robertson, Library Director. “The library has always been a place where people come for information and support. By partnering with the Little Resource Center Carbondale, we’re able to expand access to resources to meet people where they already are.”
As a Community Health Worker, Mennyweathers serves as a trusted connector between individuals, families, and local service systems. He can assist with connections to food assistance, transportation, housing supports, insurance enrollment, healthcare services, and other community-based programs. Mennyweathers brings a background in photography and graphic design along with a deep commitment to compassionate, people-centered care.
“We’re thrilled to extend our reach through this partnership with the Carbondale Public Library,” said Chastity Mays, CEO of the Little Resource Center Carbondale. “By meeting families and community members at the library, we can provide accessible support in a familiar, welcoming space.”
The Carbondale Public Library is located at 405 West Main Street. No appointment is necessary to meet with Mennyweathers during his scheduled hours. All services are free and confidential.
