Death Cafe Carbondale at Oakland Station
Sunday, October 4th, 4:00-6:00PM
Carbondale, IL – Carbondale Public Library invites you to an evening of friendly, open conversation about death facilitated by Death-Care Educator, Sam Perry at Oakland Station. Sweet treats will be provided. This program is for adults and is free and open to the public.
‘Death Cafes’ are a global initiative to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people live intentionally to make the most of their (finite) lives’. At a Death Cafe, people (often strangers) gather to eat treats and discuss death. It is a group-directed discussion with no agenda or objective and is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session. By breaking the social taboo of silence around death, participants may build a healthier vocabulary around loss, dying and cultural rituals while also building community by sharing experiences and helping others feel less alone in their thoughts or fears.
