The second annual Southern Illinois Honey Festival will be held Saturday, September 19, in downtown Makanda. The purpose of the festival is to educate the public about beekeeping and the availability and benefits of local honey. The festival includes a ‘black jar’ honey tasting contest (the judges can’t see the honey) for Illinois apiaries located south of Interstate 70. Vendors will also be on hand with honey, arts and crafts, food trucks and other items.
