Plant a Seed, Read this Summer at The Carbondale Public Library

Reading Challenges, Programs and Events for all ages

Monday, June 15th, 2026

Carbondale, IL – The Carbondale Public Library launches its Plant a Seed, Read summer reading program on Monday, June 15th!  During the next six weeks, the library will host a range of activities and programs for children, teens, and adults. All programs and events are free and open to the public, no library card required.

Sign up for the library’s summer reading challenge and earn prizes just for reading! For six weeks this summer, challenge yourself to read a little bit every day and see how it adds up. Reading for the summer reading challenge can also be counted towards our other year-round challenges. Summer reading is for all ages–even adults! To register for the summer reading challenge and start logging your reading, visit the library’s website.

In addition to the reading challenge, there will be free programs for all ages, including weekly summer storytime on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM. To celebrate and learn about Juneteenth, there will be a Juneteenth Tie Dye Party on Tuesday, June 16th from 4:00-6:00 PM. For a complete list of programs happening this summer, visit the library’s website.

This year’s summer reading program will run through July 24th. To celebrate the end of the reading challenge, there will be a foam party in the library’s garden complete with bubbles, chalk, an ice cream truck, and a foam cannon!

For additional information about these programs and more, call (618) 457-0354 or visit http://carbondalepubliclibrary.org.
