The Neighborhood Planting Project, a project of Libre Unschool, is hosting its 6th annual native fruit and nut tree distribution on April 8th, 2023. The event is rain or shine, and held at the Birch Street Food Forest (405 E Birch St, across from the Eurma Hayes Center). Since 2018, this project has given over 5,000 trees to homeowners, community gardens, and land projects in Carbondale neighborhoods and the so. IL region.
Our goal is food autonomy, community engagement, & ecological awareness. Libre, the NPP, and Carbondale Food Autonomy work not only to restore native habitat and grow perennial food crops to be enjoyed by all, but also hopes to rekindle memories of a culture of food production valued and cherished just a few generations back.
