Winter Solstice Walk at Giant City State Park on Thursday, December
21st from 4:30-5:30 pm
MAKANDA, IL – The trails at Giant City usually close at dusk so now is your chance to join environmental educator
Steve Gariepy for an evening stroll! We will walk the 1/3 mile accessible Post Oak Trail to mark the Winter Solstice for
2023. At the apex of the wintertime darkness, it will be a great time to get out, stretch out a bit, think about our current
position in the solar system, while celebrating the return of more light and longer days! Please dress for the weather and
conditions.
Please call 618-457-4836 for more information or to register.
Giant City State Park is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The mission of the IDNR is to
manage, conserve and protect Illinois’ natural, recreational and cultural resources, further the public’s understanding and
appreciation of those resources, and promote the education, science and public safety of Illinois’ natural resources for
present and future generations.
