CARBONDALE – Each year, dozens of celebrations and marches are hosted around the world during
Pride Month, celebrating LGBTQ culture, achievements and activism. Some of the largest celebrations
take place in New York City, LA, Chicago, San Francisco, New Orleans and Key West. But you don’t have
to go that far to take part in what will be one of the best Pride Month events planned for Carbondale.
The Varsity is proud to dedicate its upcoming monthly drag variety show to the Pride movement and all
it stands for. Why not show us your pride by supporting this show and the drag performers who give so
much to the community each and every day?
This month’s show begins at 7 p.m. Friday, June 17. Doors and the Varsity Bar open at 6. Join emcee
and performer Blanche DuBois, who’s drag history in Southern Illinois is rich and storied. Joining
Blanche will be Jodie Santana, Faim Lee Jewls, Leiyana Santana, Idina Rimes, Kailey Santana.
Christina Garnette will be the evening’s hostess, and she will also perform a number.
This is an all-ages show, and the venue welcomes young people; however, the show can be on
the risqué side, and those 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The show begins at 7 p.m. Friday, June 17. Tickets are $10 for adults or $5 for students with ID.
They are available in advance at www.thevarsitycenter.eventbrite.com. Tickets are not
available in advance at the venue but will be available on the night of the show.
Come early and enjoy special cocktails at the bar in the company of Christina and the Varsity
staff.
