Shawnee Hills Pottery Trail

Sunday, May 3 & Sunday, May 4, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Explore handmade pottery of southern Illinois during the tenth annual Shawnee Hills Pottery Trail on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This event is an open studio and pottery sale featuring works by thirteen potters at seven studio stops in or around Carbondale, Alto Pass, Murphysboro, and Ava.

This year’s potters include; Dan Johnson, Steve Grimmer, Harris Deller, Rob Lorenz, Karen Fiorino, Stephanie Dukat, Kari Woolsey, Gene Smout, Beth Smout, Cameron Smith, Keren Ya’ Ari, Kit Davis, and Micheal Polkingtonhorne. At each studio stop potters will display works and have pottery for sale. The potters will be available to give studio tours and answer questions about their pottery. All of the pieces for sale are handmade and food safe. Each artist has a unique style and technique ranging from functional pieces such as mugs, plates and bowls to decorative and sculptural pieces with various textures, images, designs, and colors.

The trail is a family-friendly event designed to celebrate the quality handmade pottery being created in southern Illinois. The potters wish to inform and educate the public on the value and beauty of handmade craft in our region, as well as, bring attention to the wonderful attractions in southern Illinois. In the tenth year there are some new stops on the trail this year. The seven studios are a short drive from one another and all can be visited in the course of a day or weekend trip through the foothills of Shawnee National Forest. Event attendees are encouraged to visit each stop and get their trail passport stamped for a chance to win a cup from one of the thirteen potters.
