Project Human X

Meet the 1 & only, Rockette Persephone Jaros at Project Human X’s newest art show this October. We have a special artsy treat for you on Halloween Night 5pm-8pm with live music starting at 6. 🎃 Rockette Persephone Jaros is a proud, queer, local Carbondale artist. Although they are a jack of many trades, Rockette’s art is usually depicted through acrylic paint, canvas, and ethically sourced animal bones. When Rockette was 18 years old, they studied zoology at SIU. Although they ended up switching majors due to being more passionate about human connection over lab work, the hours spent drawing bones and animal anatomy sparked a passion for painting that would only grow stronger as time passed. Soon painting became a major outlet for the artist, even therapeutic. The specific inspirations for this gallery show include oddities, bold passionate colors, and the Halloween season in southern Illinois. Some of the pieces you see displayed here include several painting series entitled “The Dogs”, “Shadow Animals”, “Moths of Illinois”, and some never before displayed framed pages from the artist’s sketchbook. Rockette’s art has been displayed in many locations throughout Carbondale since 2018, including “Love at the Glove” art gallery, Thai Taste, and SIU’s Darwin Week Art Show. When Rockette isn’t painting, you can find them working on their masters degree in sports and recreation administration, playing ukulele by their koi pond, or finding a new way to serve their community
