NO “GAZA RIVIERA” – STOP THE GENOCIDE NOW!
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2025 NOON TO 1:00 PM
The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, September 6, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale.

On Sunday, September 7, 2:00 -3:00 P.M. join the weekly Rally for Peace in Gaza, to call for a permanent ceasefire and a return to full U.N. and Humanitarian delivery of supplies to Gaza, corner of Main and Illinois Ave in Carbondale.

As the most right-wing elements of the Israeli Government forge ahead with destroying Gaza City and have cut off the meager amount of aid getting in, we hear of negotiations in Washington, D.C. that sound like the script to a fantasy horror movie…plans to pay the people of Gaza to leave and only return when they have been cleansed of their violent tendencies and the territory rebuilt as a “Riviera of the Middle East.” President Trump is joined by Tony Blair and Jared Kushner in proposing this delusional and immoral solution to the problem of Gaza.

At the same time the voices acknowledging the ongoing genocide are mounting, seemingly too late to help, including two important human rights NGOs in Israel and the International Association of Genocide Scholars. Unrest inside Israel from families of hostages, reservist soldiers, small organizations working for peace and even members of the Israel Defense Forces decry the continuing offensive and deprivation and support an end of the war.

And yet the Democratic National Committee cannot approve a resolution calling for a ceasefire and a halt to arms transfers. U.S. society is bookended with complicity in the crime of genocide. Despite the mandates of the Genocide Convention, no meaningful action has been taken by any third state to intervene in the mass killing, maiming, deprivation and displacement of the residents of Gaza, or the escalating settler and military violence and land seizure in the West Bank. That makes the U.S. and others who have not used their influence to stop Israel complicit in genocide and the other war crimes being committed. This, like military troops on the streets of U.S. cities, nullifies the law and human rights norms that should protect us all. The shame is ours.

Appropriate signs will be provided at the vigil, but all are invited to bring their own. The next monthly meeting of the Peace Coalition will be held on ZOOM, Wednesday, September 17, 6pm. For a link to the meeting, contact
