MONTHLY PEACE AND JUSTICE VIGIL:
RETIRE THE MONROE DOCTRINE—NO WAR ON VENEZUELA!
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2025 NOON TO 1:00 PM
The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, November 1, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale.
On Sunday, November 2, 2:00 -3:00 P.M. join the weekly Rally for Peace in Gaza, to call for respect for the ceasefire, a return to full U.N. and Humanitarian delivery of supplies to Gaza, and self-determination for Palestinians, not a “peace” plan that cuts them out of participation, corner of Main and Illinois Ave in Carbondale.
What began as a series of illegal, unauthorized deadly bombings in the waters of the Caribbean is terrifyingly close to all-out war in Venezuela. No significant amount of drugs come from Venezuela.
The U.S. War Department is now sending numerous battleships, including the world’s largest aircraft carrier, toward Venezuela, where Trump has threatened attacks on land to follow those that have killed over 40 people on 10 boats. The CIA has already been assigned to overthrow the Venezuelan government.
We call on the U.S. government to abide by the rule of law and the will of the U.S. public, and to leave behind its long history of interventions, overthrows, and coups, which has included efforts to overturn the government of Venezuela many times, including for much of the past decade.
The U.S. government is openly offering $50 million for the arrest of the president of Venezuela, under a false narrative, even as it invites the prime minister of Israel to speak in Washington, despite an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court.
Basta! We call on the U.S. government to retire the Monroe Doctrine, and instead strive to learn something from Latin America about the ways of peace and disarmament.
Appropriate signs will be provided at the vigil, but all are invited to bring their own. The next monthly meeting of the Peace Coalition will be held on ZOOM, Wednesday, November 19, 6pm. For a link to the meeting, contact
