The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, July 5, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale. On Sunday, July 6, 2:00 -3:00 P.M. join the weekly Rally for Peace in Gaza, to call for resumption of the ceasefire and an end of the cruel blockade of supplies by Israel, corner of Main and Illinois Ave in Carbondale.
The Reconciliation Budget Bill, which may be approved by July 4th, is truly Robin Hood in reverse! It extends and expands tax breaks for the rich and massive corporations while shredding the multi-layered safety net for our communities and citizens, for keeping our environment clean, for the renewable energy needed to address climate change and so many other life affirming government responsibilities. Besides giveaways to the rich, the big winners will further militarize our communities and the world. It will add more shock troops to our streets and give away billions to continue building our deadly arsenal of weapons, including updating nukes and starting the new boondoggle “Golden Dome.”
In May 2025, the President approved the Defense Department’s plan—a missile defense system using ground, sea and space-based components intended to protect all U.S. territory from missile attack by any country. Physicists Coalition for Nuclear Threat Reduction lays out why the proposed system would be technically ineffective, carry projected costs in the hundreds of billions of dollars or more, and accelerate the global arms race, ultimately increasing instability and the risk of nuclear war. Risk of a double boondoggle is especially high since the Pentagon has never passed an audit and is the greatest source of waste, fraud, and abuse in the entire federal government by far.
Public Citizen declares this farce of a bill would likely constitute the single biggest upward transfer of wealth in our nation’s entire history. It will exacerbate the greatest wealth gap in history, far outstripping anything civilization has experienced before. What are they thinking?
