MONTHLY PEACE AND JUSTICE VIGIL:
FROM IRAN, CUBA, GREENLAND ETC. TO MINNEAPOLIS: STOP WARMONGERING/ STOP THE ICE ASSAULT! SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2026 NOON TO 1:00 PM
The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will be joined by Indivisible Shawnee as co-sponsor to hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, February 7, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale. On Sunday, February 8 (weather permitting) from 1:00 -2:00 P.M. join the weekly Rally for Peace in Gaza, corner of Main and Illinois Ave in Carbondale. An “armada” is gathering near Iran. We saw what happened when an “armada” gathered off of Venezuela. Greenland narrowly evaded invasion by the Trump Administration. Cruel economic warfare is now aimed squarely at Cuba as even fuel deliveries are prohibited. Ukraine continues to bear the brunt of targeting civilian infrastructure from the Russian invasion. The Gaza ceasefire is a farce. We recoil as we see the killing of civilians and watch the violence and disregard for human and constitutional rights from “immigration agents” dressed as swat troops. They act like death squads in our cities targeting immigrant populations of color whose “illegal” status has been created by simply denying the right to continue a legal process. Suddenly “illegal aliens” including children and their parents are kidnapped from our courts, streets, homes without proper judicial warrants. As Temporary Protected Status is withdrawn from Haitians, we hear that Springfield, Ohio and other centers for Haitian immigrants will be invaded next. It begs the question, “who are the violent criminals”? This Administration’s actions are often as unconstitutional as they are criminal.
The danger of this moment cannot be overstated. But resistance to Trump’s violence, instability, and deprivation is growing, and that’s why we cannot let up on our demand for No Kings, No Wars and respect our immigrant neighbors. We celebrate and support the nonviolent resistance movements that are growing across the country!
Appropriate signs will be provided at the vigil, but all are invited to bring their own. The next monthly meeting of the Peace Coalition will be held on ZOOM, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, 6pm. For information about joining, contact georgeannhartzog@gmail.com.
