MONTHLY PEACE ANDJUSTICE VIGIL: START A SEASON OF NONVIOLENCE
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4,2023 NOON TO 1:00 PM
The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, February 4, 2023, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale.
The Peace Coalition joins Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service in calling for a SEASON OF NONVIOLENCE, from January 30 to April 4: a “special time of action and reflection—64days that begin and end solemnly marking the assassinations of Mohandas Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, but also recalling the boundless, nonviolent love they brought into the world—invites us to intentionally redouble our efforts toward nonviolence in our lives and our world”.
“What is needed is a “call for nonviolence” to end systemic police brutality. To challenge systems of oppression. To mobilize movements for justice. To repair all the harm. To change policies even as it transforms hearts”. That includes a call to end unfettered access to weapons of war on our streets and an aggressive foreign policy that prepares for life ending war while inadequately addressing the climate crisis.
