MONTHLY PEACE AND JUSTICE VIGIL:
PROTECT DEMOCRACY! PRACTICE DEMOCRACY!
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2022 NOON TO 1:00 PM
The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, November 5, 2022, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale.
As the 2022 Midterm election is upon us, supporters of peace and justice recognize the importance of everyone’s input. We decry attempts to intimidate voters with threats of violence and misinformation and laws that restrict access. Issues from the local, like Carbondale home rule and worker’s rights, to those we elect who decide what we spend on the military, how the unfair immigration system works, whether we provide affordable housing and so much more are all impactful.
Looming over it all is the fact that we are running out of time to address climate change. Every policy decision, action and agency should be addressing that reality. Over the past twenty years, the arms industry took in $7.2 trillion in tax dollars, trillions more than it would cost to transition the entire U.S. to a fully renewable electric grid. Citizen participation in voting and every other aspect of making a healthy democracy can make a difference. We say: Vote Peace, Support Our Communities, Not the Pentagon, Democracy Depends on You, Workers not Warfare, No to Nukes, No to Fossil Fuels.
Appropriate signs will be provided, but all are invited to bring their own. The next monthly meeting will be held on ZOOM on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, 6pm. For information about joining, contact email@example.com.
