The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, November 4, 2023, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale. PLEASE JOIN US!
The Peace Coalition joins communities around the world, Jews, Muslims, Christians and others to demand a ceasefire! It is a moral imperative to end the siege and occupation of Gaza, to release all hostages, to stop the bombs and missiles from both sides and to show respect for humanitarian law and the laws of war!
Killing thousands of men, women and children with carpet bombing and deprivation of the necessities of life cannot be a civilized definition of “defense”. Over 8,000 Palestinians have been killed in 3 weeks of bombing with many of the bombs made in the USA. According to the Middle East Monitor, the equivalent of the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 has been used in Gaza in those 3 weeks.
New House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that the House will be moving forward this week with a $14.3 billion funding package for Israel to further aid its genocidal campaign against Palestinians in Gaza with no humanitarian aid for the region. We must stand up and tell Congress to vote “NO” on taking money from our children’s future in order to pay for the slaughter of Palestinian children in Gaza. We must pressure Congress to support the “Ceasefire Now” resolution H. Res. 786, calling for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Israel and occupied Palestine.
