Did you know that falling is NOT a normal part of aging? Yet, falls remain the leading cause of serious injuries and death for old*ish adults. The good news is most falls are preventable, and there are proven steps people can take to reduce their risk.

The City of Carbondale along with High 5 for Health and Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) are committed to empowering all old*ish adults in southern Illinois to age well and stay falls free. We are partnering with the National Council on Aging (NCOA) to mark National Falls Prevention Awareness Day on Friday, September 22, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Carbondale Civic Center.

This is a perfect opportunity for old*ish adults and caregivers in our community to learn how to prevent falls and take simple steps to reduce their risk.

The event will feature a continental breakfast, balance assessments, a presentation on falls prevention and Tai Chi for old*ish adults.
