The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, October 3, Noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale.
What the U.S. government has spent on attacking Iran ($44 billion) is more than it would spend annually to create universal preschool in the United States ($35 billion).
If you put those two amounts in a picture beside the military spending bill now moving through Congress ($1.5 trillion), a truly outrageous perspective emerges!
Giving the War Department any more money is a recipe for more endless war and more theft of taxpayer funds from the pressing needs facing us.
Weapons lobbyists are using every ounce of their influence to get billions and billions more of our tax dollars for the Pentagon’s already gigantic budget. They’d boost their record profits even higher on the backs of heart-wrenching violence and global crises.
Whether through campaign donations, job-creation schemes in the districts of key lawmakers, or the revolving door into the Pentagon, and more, weapons contractors are doing all they can to ensure our tax dollars keep boosting their bottom lines.
Congress must reduce these monies below last year’s budget and refuse to couple our military with that of the Israeli government. We also call on Congress to pass a Joint Resolution of Disapproval (JRD) to BLOCK Trump’s $2.8 billion bomb sale to Israel.
It’s high time that we stop spending where war profiteers and arms lobbyists want, and start spending on the things that will improve peoples’ lives.
