In his presentation at the Southern Illinois Learning in Retirement meeting, photographer Byron Hetzler will share highlights of his nearly 40-year career. He has been the photographer at The Southern Illinoisan for nearly eight years, coming to Carbondale after 28 years of living and working in the mountains of Colorado. His presentation will include some of his favorite Southern Illinois images.
Byron Hetzler was born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa and received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Iowa. In Colorado, he was the photographer for the Winter Park ski area before spending 10 years as a freelance photographer. He then worked for the Sky-Hi News in Granby, Colorado, where he received numerous Colorado Press Association awards for his news, sports, and feature photos.
The meeting, free and open to the public, will be held at Grace United Methodist Church
