Chris Benda: Results of Botanical Survey of Carbondale City Parks
In 2024, Botanist, Chris Benda, conducted a botanical survey at a selection of ten parks managed by the city of Carbondale. He will share the survey results, including some pleasant surprises, at the August 20 meeting of Southern Illinois Learning in Retirement (SILIR). An accomplished photographer, Chris will also share some remarkable images from his extensive collection of plant photos.
Chris Benda coordinates the Plants of Concern Southern Illinois Program for the Chicago Botanic Garden and conducts rare plant surveys for the Shawnee National Forest. Chris teaches The Flora of Southern Illinois at Southern Illinois University.
The SILIR monthly meeting is free and open to the public. The meeting will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church at 1501 W. Chautauqua in Carbondale. The presentation begins at 10:30 am. A coffee and social hour begins at 9:30 am. For more information, you may refer to the website: https://conferenceservices.siu.edu/silir or call SIU Events and Outreach at 618-536-7751.
