Dr. Scott Hamilton-Brehm will discuss “Carbon Down Under: A Path to Carbon Negative” at the Southern Illinois Learning in Retirement (SILIR) meeting on Wednesday, May 15th at 10:30 a.m. He will explain how microbes can assist in transforming carbon in order to help us fight climate change.

Dr. Hamilton-Brehm, an Associate Professor of Microbiology at SIU, focuses on anaerobic and aerobic cultivation of microorganisms and on environmental sampling in his research.

The SILIR Annual Luncheon will follow in the same location, Giant City State Park Lodge, 460 Giant City Lodge Rd, Makanda, IL 62958. Both event segments are open to the public. A coffee hour begins at 9:30. The meeting is free. Luncheon tickets are $23, and the reservation deadline is May 10.
