Local percussionist Kevin Lucas will be performing two Homeless Shelter Fundraiser Concerts in July.  The first concert is a fundraiser for the Good Samaritan House of Carbondale and it will take place Sunday, July 23, 2- 5 PM at Alto Vineyard in Alto Pass, IL.   The second concert is a fundraiser for the Warming Center of Carbondale and it will take place on Saturday, July 29, 2-5 PM at Blue Sky Vineyard in Makanda IL.

Donations during both concerts are optional and there is no cover charge.  Our local shelters are in dire need this year coming out of the pandemic.   Often times there is not enough room for all of the homeless people, and not enough supplies.   “The landscape of the homeless population has changed in this nation since the pandemic, and not in a good way.   I have seen homeless people of all ages, and some in their 20s.   There seems to be more in general, and younger ages too.   It’s difficult to change the world, but we can make a big difference locally”, stated Kevin.   “I also believe automation and AI are putting many people out of jobs.   Big corporations think they are saving money by having computers run their business, but it’s putting millions of Americans out of jobs and nobody will have money to buy their products”, Lucas elaborated.

Kevin Lucas has been recording music with Top 10 Billboard Folk Artist Grant Maloy Smith.   They remade Cahokia Winds in 2021, a song Kevin wrote many years ago, and it was nominated for a Hollywood Music in Media Award for ‘Best Music Video’ in 2022.  They are also about to release a remake of Scarborough Fair, as well as a music video, filmed on an island in the Atlantic Ocean last May.   “I think people are going to love our Scarborough Fair.   It’s very different from all other versions and is a combination of Grant’s passionate vocals and folk style, as well as haunting percussion and marimba”, said Lucas.

Kevin will also be performing two concerts at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, IL in August.
