The 2003 Christmas comedy “Elf” will be screened for the holiday season at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Varsity, downtown Carbondale.
The popular movie was directed by Jon Favreau and stars Will Ferrell as the title character, a human raised by Santa’s elves. He learns about his origins and heads to New York City to meet his biological father, played by James Caan. The film also stars Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, Edward Asner and Bob Newhart.
Ferrell’s performance as Buddy the Elf was praised by critics and audiences alike, with many calling it one of his best performances.
Tickets are $8 or $4 for students. They are available in advance at Eventbrite (bit.ly/3VH7E2T) Advance tickets are not available at the venue but will be available at the door when they open 30 minutes before showtime.
The movies will be screened in the Balcony. Those who are unable to reach the Balcony, will be admitted free and invited to watch the movie on a 60-inch HDTV in the Varsity Bar.
