CARBONDALE, IL – The Good Samaritan House is urgently seeking community support
through non-perishable food donations, monetary donations, and community partner led food
drives to help feed local residents who may be affected by the disruption of federal SNAP benefits beginning November 1, 2025. “We are calling upon the Good Samaritans of our community to provide assistance to their
neighbors in need as SNAP benefits are paused due to the government shut down,” said Patty
Mullen, Executive Director of Good Samaritan Ministries. “Community donations and food
drives will be critical to ensuring none of our neighbors go hungry.”
Several local businesses and organizations are already stepping up to meet the rising need for
food access this holiday season. Ward Chrysler Center, Envi Botanicals, the Carbondale
Community Library, and Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) will each host food drives
throughout November and December to support Good Samaritan’s mission. Drives will be
starting November 1st and are scheduled to go through December 31st. We will provide more
details soon. Please follow our Facebook page for more information.
Carbondale and regional residents in need of food assistance can visit the Good Samaritan Food
Pantry located at University Baptist Church, 700 S Oakland, on Mondays and Fridays from 9:00
am to 11:30 am. The Good Samarian Soup Kitchen, located 701 S. Marion Street, serves three
meals daily not just to the residents of the shelter but to individuals and families experiencing
hunger or homelessness with three meals “on the go” option.
The Good Samaritan House invites additional local businesses, organizations, faith communities,
and student groups to partner with them and host food drives or make donations. “Every can,
every box, every drive matters. Everyone can make a difference” notes Patty Mullen. To become
a community partner or schedule a food drive, please contact Patty Mullen at (618) 457-5794 or
email goodsam@mchsi.com. To make a financial donation or to learn more about the Good
Samaritan House, please visit goodsamcarbondale.com.
