MAKANDA, Ill. – “Let’s get to know our native bamboos!”
Join Thanchira Suriyamongkol, SIUC student, as she discusses the basic ecology of giant cane, canebrake
history, identification, habitat, distribution, propagation, and status. Thanchira will then present some of the
work that has been done on cane at SIUC and why it’s important for our eco-system, especially as wildlife
habitat.
After the talk, join us for a short hike to check out some of the Giant Cane that grows at Giant City!
Space is limited so make sure to register for this free program by calling the Giant City Visitors Center at
618-457-4836.
