CARBONDALE – You are invited to an opening reception and exhibit featuring the
large-sale, handmade paper wall reliefs created by Lillian Lindorf. Viewers can
meet the artist and check out the fascinating results of this unique approach to
art at the Varsity on Saturday, Jan. 31.
Lindorf is known for her large wall reliefs, blending painting and photography
sensibilities. “The possibilities are limitless, and that is why I am drawn to this
medium,” Lindorf said. The large wall reliefs are made of smaller components.
While writing her Master of Fine Arts thesis during her stay at the Glasgow
School of Art, her research led her to remote Celtic sites where the architecture,
the landscape and stone circles served as a bank of meaning and source for her
work. “I drew from these experiences an understanding of design and order,”
Lindorf said.
The artist has had her work exhibited in galleries in the U.S. Midwest and
Scotland.
The Carbondale opening reception is at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026. The exhibit
is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council and can be viewed
during events at the historic venue and by special arrangement by emailing
varsitycenter@gmail.com.
The Varsity is in the heart of downtown Carbondale at 418 S. Illinois Ave. Go to
