CARBONDALE –
The City of Carbondale is expecting severe winter weather over the next week that may include an accumulation of
snow. Depending on the outcome of this winter storm, a snow emergency may be declared if an accumulation of
snow and/or ice exceeds two inches.
In the event a snow emergency is declared it’s important to keep Emergency Snow Routes clear. Permanent signs are
posted on the streets that are designated as Emergency Snow Routes. These streets are given primary attention
during snow, sleet and ice removal.
When snow or other freezing precipitation is in the forecast, please make arrangements to move your vehicle(s) to a
driveway, garage or side street. This will prevent your vehicle from being blocked in by the compacted piles of
snow. Parking is prohibited on any portion of an Emergency Snow Route until the route becomes substantially clear
of snow, sleet and ice. To ensure that emergency snow routes remain accessible to first responders, vehicles left on
these routes will be towed.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep our community safe! If you have questions, contact Maintenance
and Environmental Services Division at 618-457-3275. A map of emergency snow routes can be found at
