Founded in 1977, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band has taken the traditional foundation of brass band music and incorporated it into a blend of genres, including bebop jazz, funk and R&B/soul. Dubbed the “Original Sound of New Orleans Funk.” The SIU Trumpet Studio, under the direction of Ricky Spears, an assistant professor in the School of Music, will perform Nov. 7 along with the legendary, Grammy award winning Band.
