Excess cookbooks in one home could find an appreciative audience in another at a Cookbook Swap Meet,
8 am – 12 pm this Saturday, May 20 (raindate May 27), at the east end of the Carbondale Farmers
Market. Anyone interested in cooking can choose from hundreds of cookbooks for the price of a donation
to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry, the amount is up to you. “Last year at this time we made $400 for
the Warming Center just at the Cookbook Swap Meet. It would be great to do the same,” said Sarah
Heyer, owner of Confluence Books.
Confluence Books is at the Carbondale Farmers Market in Westowne Centre most Saturdays, selling
“books for a buck” to benefit a local charity. April/May dollars will go to Good Samaritan Ministries for
the Food Pantry, Soup Kitchen, or Emergency Shelter. Cookbook funds will stock the food pantry.
Tables will be set up for people to bring cookbooks that they want to pass on to others, and to peruse and
choose from the cookbooks that others have brought. Freewill donations will be accepted, with all
proceeds going directly to stock the Food Pantry.
Books that remain at the end of the swap meet will be cleared out by Confluence Books. Some will be
given away or recycled; others might return to the Farmers Market as one-dollar books; and some might
go on the shelves at the bookstore. Watch for a “Free” table in front of the bookstore, at 705 W Main
Street after the Swap Meet.
