CARBONDALE – The City of Carbondale will host its third annual National Day of Racial Healing –
Carbondale “At the Table” Dinner & Dialogue event on Tuesday, January 20th at the Carbondale Civic Center.
The National Day of Racial Healing, observed annually on the Tuesday following Martin Luther King, Jr. Day,
is an initiative by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation that embraces Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation
(TRHT).
On January 20th, the City of Carbondale will join communities nationwide in recognizing the day by inviting
people from all backgrounds to participate in facilitated dialogue that offers participants the opportunity to
reflect on the history of racism, understand their roles in confronting inequality, and foster ongoing communitybuilding.
The Carbondale “At the Table” Dinner & Dialogue Series will continue on the first Tuesday of each month
through June. This series allows attendees to engage in meaningful dialogue surrounding new monthly topic
while sharing a community meal.
This event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 5pm and dialogue will begin at 5:30pm. Seating is
limited and registration is required. Register here: https://form.jotform.com/260066154769160 . For more

The “At the Table” Dinner & Dialogue Series is supported by Healing Illinois, a racial healing initiative of the
Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) in partnership with The Field Foundation of Illinois and the
Southern Illinois Community Foundation.
“Carbondale prides itself on providing its visitors, students, businesses and residents with a unique mix of edge and ease. It’s a
cultural town, yet free of pretense, embracing the great outdoors as readily as urban sophistication. Here, we are open to new
ideas, experiences and cultures, so you are encouraged to both express yourself and be yourself, in all ways. That’s
Carbondale…All Ways Open… for family, fun, business, new ideas and a bright tomorrow.”
