MAKANDA, IL – On Saturday, March 9th from 2-3 pm join local author, Kimberly France, as she discusses research on
her recently published book Black Settlements in Southern Illinois. Her presentation, in collaboration with local historian
Darrell Dexter, will focus on Union County.
Kimberly France was born and raised in Carbondale, Illinois. She began researching her family lineage in earnest in 2020

Settlements in Southern Illinois in an effort to document critical pieces of Illinois history that aren’t well known. Ms.
France is an alumnus of Howard University and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
