Carbondale, IL. Confluence Books is preparing for the biggest cookbook fundraiser it has held yet. As
usual, it will be at the Carbondale Farmers Market in Westowne Centre and will benefit the Carbondale
Food Pantry. The date is Saturday April 4 from 8 am to noon. What’s new is the number of cookbooks
expected: a couple trailer loads will be delivered directly to the market that morning. People are still
welcome to bring their extra cookbooks but, according to Confluence Books owner Sarah Heyer, “at this
point we will have more books than space on the tables. So we hope that people come ready to take
cookbooks for all their friends and family.”
The cookbooks are not priced. Anyone can take whatever they need or want and put a donation into the
jar, knowing that it will go directly to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry. Checks can be made out to Good
Samaritan Ministries.
Heyer also has a new plan for leftover cookbooks. The bulk of them will be distributed to local food
pantries for clients to pick up along with their food. Representatives of food pantries are welcome to
show up on April 4 and put together their own box. She invites other farmers markets to copy her
fundraiser idea; she’ll even provide the cookbooks to get them started.
The raindate will be Saturday, April 11. For more information about Confluence Books or the Cookbook
