MONTHLY PEACE AND JUSTICE VIGIL/RALLY FOR PEACE IN GAZA: PAYING FOR WAR: MAKES THE RICH RICHER, THE POOR POORER
SATURDAY, MAY 2, 2026, NOON TO 1:00 PM
The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will hold the Monthly Peace and Justice Vigil on Saturday, May 2, noon to 1 P.M. at the corner of Main and Illinois Ave., Carbondale. The weekly Rally for Peace in Gaza/Mideast will be held in conjunction with the vigil on Saturday.
The Administration’s proposed 2027 budget priorities include supplementing the war budget from the obscene $1 trillion for FY ’26 to the unthinkable proposal $1.5 trillion for FY ’27. The Trump budget agenda fuels the war machine while cutting programs for the poor and middle class to give tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations. This adds to the injury to American society while increasing insecurity, violence, displacement and climate devastation in the wider world. This provides more money for the president’s cruel mass deportation and detention agenda, cutting off more poor and low-income people from programs that help counter the injustices in our economy.
Instead of spending tax dollars for war, we could spend them restoring the cuts from the Big Ugly Bill – and have enough to expand health insurance and food assistance for more people instead of cutting citizens from these life-saving programs. Institute for Policy Studies.
We must reject these priorities and stop the wars now!!
