CARBONDALE – As we move into the growing season, the City of Carbondale would like to remind all
property owners and occupants of their responsibility to maintain their properties in accordance with Section
11.4.1 of the City Code.
Grass, weeds, and similar vegetation must be kept under control and not allowed to exceed 8 inches height.
Proper maintenance helps prevent pests, supports neighborhood appearance, and protects public health and
safety. This does not apply to land zoned as Forestry or Agriculture as long as a 20-foot perimeter adjacent to
any right-of-way is mowed and maintained. Owners and tenants are required to keep the adjoining public rightof-way cut.
Beginning the week of April 26, Building & Neighborhood Services will begin monitoring and enforcing these
requirements. We encourage everyone to take a few moments now to ensure your property is in compliance.
Two ordinance violations during the same growing season will result in a citation issued to all property owners
and occupants. Each subsequent posting will result in a citation during the balance of growing season.
If the tall grass and weeds have not been mowed within seven days of the posting, the City’s mowing contractor
will mow the property at the owner’s expense.
