CARBONDALE, IL- Downtown Carbondale will turn into a one-of-a-kind mini-golf course
on Saturday, March 21, 2026, as Carbondale Main Street hosts the 16th Annual
Carbondale Classic, a beloved community fundraiser that brings hundreds of people
downtown for a day of fun, friendly competition, and support for the city’s vibrant
business district.
The Carbondale Classic transforms some of Carbondale’s favorite bars and restaurants
into creative putt-putt holes, sending teams of four across downtown to test their putting
skills while exploring the district’s local establishments. The event blends a bar crawl
with miniature golf, all while raising funds that support Carbondale Main Street’s work to
strengthen and promote the downtown community. Teams will compete for $1,000 in cash prizes, split among the top three teams with the
lowest scores, along with plenty of bragging rights.
Participants will check in at the Carbondale Main Street office from 8:15–9:00 a.m., with
play running from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Winners will be announced during the Awards
Party following the event.
“This event is always a favorite because it brings people together downtown for
something creative and fun while supporting the work we do year-round,” said
Carbondale Main Street organizers.
This year’s Classic will feature putting holes hosted by many beloved local
establishments, including:
Booby’s Carbondale, Buckwater Brew Works, The Cellar, Elks Lodge, Eagles
Club, Global Gourmet, Hangar 9, Key West Bar, Lost Forest Coffeehouse &
Pub, PK’s, Quatro’s, Rip’s Brick Oven Pizzeria, Traxx, Tres Hombres Sports Bar &
Restaurant, and The Varsity Center. Teams can register for $160 per team, and participants must be 21 years or older. Players are encouraged to register by Monday, March 16 to guarantee an event T-shirt.
Community members can also take part by volunteering for the event, with both
morning and afternoon shifts available. Volunteers receive a free event T-shirt and lunch
if they stay for the full day.
As part of the National Main Street Program, Carbondale Main Street works to enhance
and promote the economic and social vitality of downtown Carbondale. The
organization supports local businesses through promotional efforts,
design assistance grants, and signature events such as Brown Bag Concert Series and
the Carbondale Halloween Downtown Candy Walk.
Proceeds from the Carbondale Classic directly support these initiatives, helping ensure
downtown Carbondale remains a welcoming place for businesses, residents, and
visitors alike.
Community members are encouraged to gather a team, volunteer, or come downtown
to cheer on participants and support Carbondale Main Street’s mission.
