Funds Raised to Support Good Samaritan House in Carbondale
Carbondale, Ill. – Mark your calendars for the 2026 Neighborhood Co-op Grocery Feed Your Neighbor 5K Run/Walk! The event
will be held on Friday, April 10, 2025 beginning at 6pm at Turley Park, located on the corner of West Main and Glenview in
Carbondale. The race will be professionally timed by Southern Illinois Racing and is a certified course.
All proceeds will support Good Samaritan House of Carbondale, which provides a food pantry, soup kitchen, emergency
shelter, transitional housing, and emergency assistance to the area’s most vulnerable citizens. Participants are also asked to
bring non-perishable food items on race day, especially canned goods, which will be donated to Good Samaritan House. “We encourage runners and walkers of all ages to join us for a fun evening with live music, snacks, and raffle giveaways while
helping to raise much-needed funds for a local organization dedicated to helping people in need,” said Emily Yates, Brand
Manager for the Neighborhood Co-op Grocery. “We have been supporting Good Samaritan House with community donations
for years and are proud to be doing so once again – this is our 27th year hosting the Feed Your Neighbor 5K.”
Good Samaritan House Executive Director, Patty Mullen shared, “For the calendar year 2025 our Transitional House Program
served 34 people for a total of 2,030 nights stayed. Our Emergency Shelter served 236 people including 226 adults and 10
children including 16 Veterans for a total of 6,461 nights stayed. Our Emergency Assistance program served 320 people with
rent, utilities, transportation and more. The Food Pantry served 3,779 households including 11,566 individuals and 3,401
children. Our Soup Kitchen served 36,463 meals to the residents of the shelter, the transitional house, and hungry people from
our community.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register online at www.neighborhood.coop/5k which secures an event t-shirt too. On-site
registration begins at 4:30 pm on race day. Additional activities will include live music, a community coloring banner, food,
beverages, and a raffle for prizes from local businesses. Winners of each age group will be presented with Co-op made bread.
Top male and female runners will be awarded a grand prize.
Neighborhood Co-op Grocery will also be accepting monetary donations made on the event signup page for those who wish to
make a contribution. Those donations will be given directly to Good Samaritan House after the event.
Sponsors include SIU Credit Union, SIH, Fir-Sure Tropical Foliage with additional support from the City of Carbondale, Silkworm
