Freezin’ for a Reason Shawnee Plunge at Pounds Hollow set for March 7th

The 5th annual Shawnee Plunge will take place at the Pounds
Hollow Recreation area in the Shawnee National Forest on Saturday, March 7th. The event,
hosted by the Friends of the Shawnee National Forest, begins at 9 a.m. and features a host of
activities throughout the day.
The fun begins with a guided hike to Pounds Hollow Arch. Hikers will meet at the
Pounds Hollow parking lot at 9 a.m. and then car pool to the trail head.
A “Forest Therapy Walk” to Rim Rock begins at noon.
On-site registration for the Plunge begins at noon. Musician John West performs from
noon to 2 p.m. Participants in the Plunge should be ready to go at 2 p.m.
The Sasquatch Grill food truck will serve up delicious food starting at 11 a.m. Other
games and activities will take place throughout the day.
Prizes will be awarded for the best team costumes.
The event is sponsored by AES Solar in Carterville and Shawnee Trails in Carbondale.
Pre-registration is $40 at www.shawneefriends.com. The first 50 people to pre-register
will receive a commemorative refrigerator magnet. Registration on the day of the event is $50,
cash or check only. Donations are welcome.
All proceeds will be split between the Equality Fire Department, whose first responders
are often called to the Shawnee to aid in rescues and other emergencies, and the Friends of the
Shawnee National Forest, which plays a leading role in advancing sustainability issues within the
Shawnee.
