Kim Curlee to present ‘Lincoln and Shakespeare’
Kim Curlee will portray Abraham Lincoln at the February 18 meeting of Southern Illinois Learning in Retirement at 10:30 am. Curlee reprises the role of Lincoln in Kevin Purcell’s original play Lincoln and Shakespeare to share Lincoln’s profound knowledge and lifelong love of William Shakespeare. Created for the Varsity Theatre, Lincoln and Shakespeare turns the irony of Lincoln’s death at Ford’s Theatre at the hands of a Shakespearean actor into a Shakespearean exploration of key events in Lincoln’s life.
Kim Curlee is well known to local theater goers having appeared in numerous productions at McLeod Theater since the 1980s. He has twice toured the Midwest with the Stone Soup Shakespearean Company and has performed with the St. Louis Shakespeare group. Curlee has also directed plays for The Stage Company and is a playwright as well.
The presentation, free and open to the public, will begin at 10:30 am at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Chautauqua, Carbondale. A coffee and social hour begins at 9:30 am.
