CARBONDALE, IL — February 7, 2026 — Food Works, in partnership with Carbondale Food
Autonomy, will host the 2026 Annual Spring Seed Swap on Saturday, February 7, from 9:00
a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Food Works Winter Farmers Market, located inside Carbondale
Community High School (Giant City Entrance), 1301 Walnut Street.
The Spring Seed Swap is a free, community-focused event designed to kick off the gardening
season. Gardeners of all experience levels, from longtime growers to those simply gardening curious, are invited to attend.
Participants are encouraged to bring seeds they’ve saved from vegetables, herbs, or flowers to
share, though bringing seeds is not required to participate. Attendees may browse, exchange,
and take home seeds at no cost. Plants are also welcome. Genetically modified seeds are not
permitted.
In addition to seed sharing, the event will feature educational opportunities, including
information on:
● Starting and cultivating seedlings
● Making your own seed-starting mix
● Best practices for early-season garden planning
The Seed Swap will take place alongside the Food Works Winter Farmers Market, giving
attendees the chance to shop with local food vendors, connect with fellow gardeners, and learn
from community experts.
This event is supported by Food Works and the Carbondale Food Autonomy, organizations
committed to strengthening local food systems, seed sovereignty, and neighborhood resilience.
