Downtown Mt. Vernon to Kick Off the Holiday Season with Downtown Open Houses & Christmas at The Commons Featuring the Ivas John Band

Mt. Vernon, Illinois — The City of Mt. Vernon invites residents and visitors to celebrate the
start of the holiday season with two festive downtown events on Sunday, November 23,
2025. Guests can enjoy an afternoon of shopping, music, food, and community cheer
during the Downtown Holiday Open Houses followed by Christmas at The Commons
featuring the Ivas John Band.
Downtown Holiday Open Houses
12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. | Downtown Mt. Vernon
Local shops throughout downtown and beyond will open their doors for an afternoon of
seasonal specials, festive displays, and holiday cheer. Many businesses will offer special
sales, treats, food samples, and prize opportunities, creating a warm and welcoming
environment for holiday shoppers. Visitors can also enjoy soups and sandwiches from the
KSM Café, Roco’s Pizza Food Truck, The Gourmet Kettle with kettle corn, pork rinds and
more, La Fuente Mexican Restaurant and Joe’s Pizza & Pasta.
This event encourages guests to explore the downtown district, support small businesses,
and enjoy the seasonal atmosphere Mt. Vernon.
Christmas at The Commons Featuring the Ivas John Band
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. | The Commons, Downtown Mt. Vernon
Holiday festivities continue just steps away at The Commons, where the acclaimed Ivas
John Band will perform a live Christmas set from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Guests are
encouraged to enjoy the Open Houses early in the afternoon before making their way to the
concert to complete their experience. The performance is presented in part through
support from the Schweinfurth Foundation.
A Full Day of Holiday Cheer
With shopping, live entertainment, and festive treats, these two events offer the perfect
opportunity for families, friends, and visitors to gather in celebration of the holiday season.
Whether browsing for unique gifts or enjoying live holiday music, guests will find plenty to
