Marion, Ill. – Centerstone, a national nonprofit leader in mental health and substance
use disorder treatment, invites the Southern Illinois community to come together for the
third annual Life;Story 5K Run/Walk, a family-friendly event aimed at raising awareness
and support for suicide prevention. The event takes place on Saturday, September 6,
2025, with a new location this year at Ray Fosse Park, 500 Deyoung St., Marion. The
5K walk and run kicks off at 7:00 AM, followed by a Community Health & Wellness Expo
from 7:00 to 10:00 AM.
This event is a time to reflect, connect, and take action to honor those lost to suicide
and help provide hope and healing for those still struggling. Named for the semicolon
used when a sentence could have ended but didn’t, Life;Story is a symbol that your
story isn’t over.
Nationally, the suicide crisis continues to grow, with more than 49,000 American lives
lost in in 2023. Suicide is now one of the leading causes of death among youth,
veterans, and middle-aged adults. By participating in Life;Story, community members
send a message that hope is stronger than stigma and that help is available.
This year’s new venue at Ray Fosse Park offers expanded space, easier parking, and a
beautiful, accessible course for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. All
proceeds from the Life;Story race in Marion directly support Centerstone’s regional
suicide prevention and mental health services, including counseling, crisis intervention,
and addiction recovery programs. These services are provided regardless of a person’s
ability to pay.
“This event grows every year, and we’re excited to bring it to Ray Fosse Park to make it
even more inclusive and impactful,” said Anne Tyree, regional chief executive officer at Centerstone.
“Our goal with this event is to break down stigma, uplift stories of survival,
and make sure no one walks alone.”
